Working with a long-term client – M3 Ltd – we were asked to provide a solution to aid in with their procurement process and management of new and existing suppliers for their supply chain database.
The solution was to develop a bespoke central database, allowing for the supply chain team within M3 to search and control all data for the procurement process.
Furthermore, we developed a front facing area, integrated into the M3 website, that allowed new and existing suppliers to manage their own records, reducing the work load for the client.
Find out more below about this comprehensive project, which spanned several weeks of consultation, development time and extensive testing and quality control.
The initial task for this project was to design the database architecture in consultation with the Supply Chain Manager at M3.
For a system that needed to collect over 140 peices of individual supplier data, spread across multiple sections, all of which would need to be searchable and in many instances, relational to other areas, the design and structure of the database was highly important.
The database also needed to contain additional structure and functionality for the intrinsic processes of the system, both from an administration point of view, and for customer (in this case “supplier”) relationship management.
During consultation, M3 had specific requirements for the functionality they would require from a user interface.
We constructed a secure administration portal, using the Bootstrap framework to provide a solid user interface, that allowed the supply chain team at M3 to interact with and manage all the data collected from their suppliers.
The management portal also provided an extensive filtered search facility, with real-time result updates and pagination, using jQuery and ajax, to provide a seamless and user friendly experience.
Of paramount importance to the success of this project, was the ability for the clients wide range of suppliers to be able to access and manage their own records in one central location.
Having worked previously to design and develop M3’s company website, we saw the opportunity to integrate the supplier’s “front facing” interaction with the system into the existing website.
By building a bespoke API for communication between the supply chain system and the company website, we created a secure communication link that allowed a seamless experience for the supplier and guaranteed proper collection and storage of data for the client.
