A bespoke WordPress platform for Teen Health Leicestershire, helping young people, parents and professionals access trusted health information through tailored journeys, engaging content and carefully considered UX.

Clearer routes into sensitive health topics
Teen Health is a health advice and guidance platform from Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council, supporting young people, parents, carers and professionals.
The platform needed to serve younger teenagers, older teenagers, parents and professionals through tailored navigation, content and onward pathways.
We created a flexible website experience that helps each audience start in the right place, supported by workshops, illustration, animation and a transition booklet for children moving to secondary school.
Varied content for different users
The platform needed to balance structure, safeguarding, and usability with an engaging and warm way to present sensitive content. Different users needed tailored routes, language and support. This meant that no single shared structure could work and that content had to function across devices, ages, and reading levels, handling sensitive subjects carefully.
Additionally, safeguarding concerns meant direct workshops with young people were not always appropriate. This meant creating materials for onsite professionals could use in sessions to safely gather meaningful feedback.
Our approach
We focused on creating a clear, welcoming platform that could adapt to different audiences without feeling fragmented.
Audience selection became central to the UX. By helping users identify themselves early, the site could present more relevant navigation, content and onward journeys.

A more approachable visual experience
The project started with only a basic logo, but no wider brand. We created a playful illustration style and a series of bespoke animations to help the platform feel more engaging and less intimidating for younger users. The animated characters helped introduce more serious topics in an approachable way without undermining the content’s importance.
Typography, illustration, colour and interaction were used carefully throughout the platform to support clarity and engagement while keeping the experience accessible and easy to follow.
Supporting sensitive browsing behaviour
Some users may need to leave the site quickly or may not want others to see the topics they are exploring.
To support this, we implemented a quick-exit feature that allows users to leave or hide the website if needed immediately. Features like this helped the platform better support privacy, comfort and real-world usage scenarios for young people accessing sensitive information.
Anonymous link saving and resource collection
We developed a tailored basket feature that lets users save useful pages and resources as they browse.
Users can collect links, then either download their selection or email themselves a private retrieval link to revisit later. The process remains fully anonymous, with no personal data stored, giving people a safe way to return to health information in their own time.
School-specific support information
Young people can search for their school to find relevant Teen Health contacts, availability and supporting guidance linked to their setting.
The feature helps connect digital health information with real-world support, giving students clearer routes to trusted help within their school community.
Flexible content management
The platform was built in WordPress with Gutenberg, giving the Teen Health team a practical CMS for day-to-day updates.
Structured content types, reusable layouts and clear taxonomy make health topics easier to manage, update and expand as guidance, campaigns and content needs change.
A transition booklet supporting children moving to secondary school
Alongside the website, we designed an interactive transition booklet for children moving from primary to secondary school.
The booklet combines activities, prompts and practical advice to help children prepare for the transition in a more engaging and supportive way. Delivered as an interactive PDF, it allows users to complete sections digitally and keep the document for future reference.
The booklet extended the broader Teen Health approach beyond the website, creating another accessible resource for young people and families.
